2012/2013 Fixtures

I’ve uploaded the fixture lists for the 2012/2013 season. You can download them from the Calendar page.

2012/2013 Season

The 2012/2013 season starts on Tuesday 4th September at 19:00. We look forward to seeing you all there. We’re hoping that some of the visitors who were attracted by the summer badminton will come along too and join us for the new season. Members from last season will be getting an e-mail from me shortly to ask about preferences for teams.

No badminton Tuesday 12th June

The school have advised that the hall will not be available on Tuesday 12th June. We’ll contact Interserve to get an alternative date and we’ll let everyone know if we manage to arrange some badminton for another night. Summer badminton will resume on Tuesday 19th June.

Ladies – Interested In Badminton? – We Need You!

Oakbrook are actively seekly new members this year, with a particular emphasis on ladies who would like to play in matches.

Please contact Dawn or Simon (see our contact us link) for more info or join us during summer for a no-obligation summer season of badminton!

AGM News

Thank you to those who turned up for the AGM last night and also to Fulwood Sports Club for letting us use their pavilion and providing us with refreshments from the bar.

Minutes are currently being typed and will be emailed as soon as Simon’s fingers allow!

Summer Badminton

Summer badminton will run on Tuesdays starting on the 22nd May from 7.45pm to 9.45pm. We will have two or three courts each night; depending on numbers. There won’t be a session on 5th June due to the public holiday. The cost is £25 for summer membership (14 nights); payable in advance. If you wish to “pay and play” there will be a fee of £3 on the night.

The summer club will also be open to other club members and those not already in a club. It’s always good to pit your wits against new opposition! Please contact Dawn on 07944 185237 or email for more information.

AGM 15th May 2012

Our AGM is on Tuesday 15th May 2012, starting at 7.30pm.

I have booked Fulwood Sports (Tennis) Club pavilion again, where we will be able to use their pavilion and buy drinks from the bar at cost price!

Please let me know if there is anything you would like on the agenda, and also whether or not you think you can make it.

I don’t think it should be too long this year as we don’t have many big decisions to make so please do come – the club would not exist if it weren’t for those who support it – both with their attendance and fees but also with their help in running it!

Club Tournament

Please remember that Tuesday 27th March is the annual club tournament. There will not be a normal club night on this night so if you haven’t entered the tournament it’s probably worth staying at home with a nice hot drink; unless, of course, you want to come and watch. For those of you who have entered the tournament, please arrive at 7pm sharp so that we can start the tournament. We have 33 games to get through so it’s essential that we start on time and move quickly from one game to the next.

Paces 1 vs. Oakbrook 1

Sunday 18th March 2012

5-4

John W, Dave W | Chris R, Dave R | David P, Mark R

The same team for two matches in a row? Unheard of! A really good win for the team against league-topping Paces. It’s a very tight league with no one team able to differentiate themselves from the rest. In the end we ran out 5-4 winners with the match going down to the deciding rubber at 4-4. Amazingly, I managed not to choke (for the second time this season!) and Mark and I closed out the rubber in two ends. John and Dave again did us proud with by winning all three of their rubbers although they were pushed hard all the way. Chris and Dave I’m sure will have better nights so we’ll just chalk this one down to experience 😉

University vs. Oakbrook 1

Thursday 23rd February 2012

6-3

John W, Dave W | Chris R, Dave R | David P, Mark R

An important win for the Mens Plastics team against those young whippersnappers from the University. The match was played in a good spirit and there were lots of close games. In the end, the Walkers won all three of their rubbers, Chris and Dave won a couple and Mark and myself secured a single rubber. It was good to have the full team available again; a situation that has been all too infrequent this season. Hopefully the team can kick on from here and win a few more matches in order to secure our future in the second division.
